This evening my teenage sister had a friend over. Ironically, her name is also my name. I found myself revolted the moment she walked in the door when she exclaimed quite loudly "Oh my god Clare, I totally just saw this guy who looked like Bailey but he was totally old, like 15 or 16 and I reckon he was checking me out because he wouldn't stop looking at me".
I managed to stifle my amusement.
They then went on to talk about Gossip Girl and how hot all the guys are... especially "Ed Westwick... OMG he is SO HOT!" until they did an image search of him on Google. They found a picture of him topless and both proceeded to pretend to upchuck.
"I totally thought he was so hot until I saw that picture!"
I sneaked a peek.This was the picture.
No wonder we wind up with body issues... if someone doesn't have muscles they are spew worthy?
I went on to mention that was an amazing body compared to the male bodies I've seen around here.
I really would like to know how I managed to live through puberty if I was anything like them.
I'm really hoping they create Teenabotomy before Saria gets to that age.
That is my little rant for the day, thank you and good night.

its true, y'know.
ReplyDeletethe pursuit of media perfection is singlehandedly destroying our perception of self worth. nowadays, if you don't look like Megan Fox or have rippling muscles in the case of most guys, you're considered to be unattractive. it bleeds into every day life and that's why hardly anyone our age has meaningful relationships these days... they're all looking for 'mr/mrs perfect' instead of 'mr/mrs right'.
I know, it's so screwed.. and even people like Megan Fox wind up destroying their face with plastic surgery because of the issues the media throw into our face.
ReplyDeleteI think we unfairly blame 'the media', though, because they're only a communication method between us and the Hollywood executives.
ReplyDeleteHollywood executives push certain stars more than they do others and the media just projects that onto us as the public.
I mean, take for example Zac Efron.
He's actually a VERY talented young man and was getting a lot of push from the media when he was dating Whatshersluttyname from High School Musical... now that he isn't a tween sensation anymore, most of his more artistically stimulating works are being ignored.
Another example would be the comparison between starlets like Megan Fox or Kim Kardashian and a slightly more awkward looking actress like Kathy Bates or Katherine Manheim. The latter two are far more talented and have a lot more charisma and depth... but they're 'fat' and 'old'.
